If the case proceeds as class actions, you maybe part of the case if you purchased a domain name through RegisterFly, and suffered damages as a result of using RegisterFly. This could be that you were prevented from transferring your domain name; that you were billed, but the name was never reserved; that you paid for a renewal, but lost the name because RegisterFly did not renew the Domain Name; that RegisterFly blocked you from access to your account by the use of "ProtectFly" or there may be harms we have not yet documented.

As with any large case, this case will likely take several years before it goes to trial. We are at the beginning stages of the litigation, and we will keep you posted as the litigation proceeds and we are better able to estimate time frames.
There was a suit filed between the battling owners of RegisterFly in New Jersey, however the plaintiff John Naruszewicz has stated that he does not intend to appeal the decision of March 7, 2007 which gave complete ownership of RegisterFly to Kevin Medina.
There is one other case against RegisterFly and it does not seek to protect anyone other than the individual who filed the suit.

A Registry is an entity licensed by ICANN to maintain the master database of domain names for a particular top-level domain (TLD). The registry receives domain name information from registrars who have to be accredited by ICANN, however they can also regiter domain names directly from the public. The list of licensed registries includes:
VeriSign .COM & .NET
PIR .ORG
Afilias .INFO
NeuLevel .BIZ
NeuStar .US
The registry puts that information into what is called a "zone file," which allows computers to route Internet traffic to and from domains around the world.
A Registrar is a company which has gone through the accreditation processes with ICANN to become licensed to post the ICANN accredited logo on their web site, and hold them selves out to the public to register domain names on behalf of "registrants" (people who would like to register and use a domain name.) The Registrars have to work with the Registry which is licensed for the specific extension (i.e. VeriSign for all .com & .net), but they can register domain names across multiple different extensions (i.e. .com, .org, or .biz)
A Registrant is an individual, company, or other organization like a non-profit, which registers a domain name, and becomes the actual owner of that domain name.
